Keyboard Shortcuts
Master these shortcuts to significantly speed up your transcription workflow. All bindings are sourced from the editor's shortcut registry and reflect the current defaults.
Cmd = Mac, Ctrl = Windows/Linux. Alt = Option on Mac.
Press Cmd/Ctrl+/ to open the keyboard shortcuts dialog in the editor at any time.

Tips for Memorizing Shortcuts
Audio Shortcuts (J, K, L Pattern)
The audio shortcuts follow a pattern used in professional video editing:
- J — Jump back (Skip Back 5s)
- K — Kill/start (Play/Pause)
- L — Leap forward (Skip Forward 5s)
Speed Shortcuts (< > Pattern)
Speed controls use comma and period, which look like < and >:
- , — Slower (less than, decrease)
- . — Faster (greater than, increase)
Most Used Shortcuts
Focus on learning these first:
- Cmd/Ctrl+K — Play/Pause (you'll use this constantly)
- Cmd/Ctrl+J / L — Skip back / forward
- Cmd/Ctrl+] — Jump to next blank (essential for filling inaudibles)
- Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Enter — Insert speaker label
- Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P — Proofread

Shortcut Conflicts
If a shortcut doesn't work:
- Browser extensions may capture some shortcuts (common with
Ctrl+Shift+Sfor screenshot tools) - Check if another application is intercepting the key combination
- Try a different browser or disable conflicting extensions
