AI Proofreading
AI Proofreading listens to your audio and compares it against the transcript text to find and fix errors. All corrections appear as track changes so you can review each one before accepting.
How to Proofread
Open Your Transcript
Navigate to the project you want to proofread in the editor.
Start Proofreading
Press Cmd+Shift+P (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+P). The editor locks and shows a progress indicator while Donna processes your transcript.
Review Corrections
When processing finishes, corrections appear as track changes:
- Green text — Words Donna added or corrected
- Red strikethrough text — Words Donna marked for removal
Accept or Reject Changes
Review each correction individually:
- Accept a change to keep the correction
- Reject a change (Cmd+Shift+R) to keep the original text
- Use Accept All or Reject All for bulk decisions
What Proofreading Corrects
Donna compares your transcript against the audio to catch:
- Transcription errors — Misheard words, mumbled speech, wrong words
- Speaker label mistakes — Incorrect speaker assignments detected from voice patterns
- Punctuation and grammar — Missing periods, comma placement, capitalization
- Word boundaries — Split or merged words that should be separate
How It Works
- Your transcript is divided into chunks aligned with audio segments
- Each chunk is sent to the AI along with the corresponding audio
- The AI listens to the audio and compares it to your text
- Corrections are applied as track changes so nothing is modified without your review
Proofreading works best with clear audio. Background noise, overlapping speakers, or very quiet recordings may reduce accuracy.
During Processing
While Donna is proofreading:
- The editor is locked (you'll see a gray overlay)
- A progress indicator shows which chunk is being processed
- Helpful tips rotate on screen while you wait
- You can press Escape to cancel the operation
After Proofreading
When processing completes, you'll see:
- A notification showing how many corrections were applied
- Track Changes enabled automatically so you can review each correction
- Word count and processing statistics
Tips
- Proofread your transcript before formatting — proofreading works on unformatted text
- If you're not happy with the results, use Undo (Cmd+Z) to revert all changes at once
- For best results, make sure your audio file is complete and matches the transcript content
- Proofreading processes the full transcript — there's no need to select specific text first
Proofreading cannot run on text that has already been formatted with the AI formatter. If you need to proofread, do it before applying formatting.
